Greek Co. Overcomes ‘Worst Season’ to Win Gold

An organic blend and an organic monovarietal by Androulakis Eftychios Olive Oil Bottling Pamako from Greece have won Gold Awards at NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

The winning oils were Pamako Monovarietal Mountain Bio, an organic medium-intensity Tsounati that won its third consecutive Gold Award; and Pamako Mountain Organic Blend, an organic medium blend.

The most recent recognitions bring company's wins at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest to five.

The company produces organic extra virgin olive oil in Chania Kritis, Greece.

The season was a tough one, owner Eftychios Androulakis said when he learned of the win.

"It was the worst olive season of Crete for at least the last 10 years. We had many problems with the fungus of Gliosporium and much more with the thousands of Mediterranean fly," Androulakis said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
