Celal Volkan Pekcan Overcomes Wind, Rain to Win NYIOOC

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Turkish olive oil producer Celal Volkan Pekcan has won an award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Located just up the coast from Ayvalik, the producer earned a Silver Award for a medium-intensity Ayvalik.

Volkan Peckan said he was "honored" to win an award at the world's largest olive oil quality contest and "motivated for the next harvest season."

Winning his second-consecutive accolade in New York was especially gratifying after windy, cold, rainy weather conditions complicated the harvest.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
