Central Coast Olive Co. Credits Win to ‘Hard Work, Love’

4 years agoBy Masha Richart

A medium monovarietal produced by Central Coast Olive Company achieved a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

We are absolutely thrilled to win at this event. The best of the best! While humbling, it does make us want to keep doing what we are doing - pouring hard work and love into those beautiful trees that give us their wonderful oil.

Elizabeth McCown, Owner, Central Coast Olive Company.

The winning oil was the Central Coast Olive Company medium Mission, produced via traditional processes from the company's 400 trees in California.

Company owner Elizabeth McCown remarked on hearing of the award that conditions were favorable for the producer in 2019.

"California's Central Coast was blessed with an abundant harvest in 2019. Our challenges were few - controlling the olive fruit fly and and scheduling labor for harvest. Both of these challenges were readily met and we are thankful for our beautiful land," McCown said.

McCown also noted the motivating boost that a win at the world's premier olive oil competition provides for producers.

"We are absolutely thrilled to win at this event. The best of the best! While humbling, it does make us want to keep doing what we are doing - pouring hard work and love into those beautiful trees that give us their wonderful oil," she said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
