Estância Dona Genoveva Wins Gold in New York

Estância Dona Genoveva from Brazil has won two Gold Awards at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

Situated in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, the company earned its debut NYIOOC awards for its Olivas Alto Bonito brand, a medium Koroneiki, and medium-intensity Olivas Alto Bonito Blend.

"This is great," owner Renato Kalil said. "To win a prize like this, for a beginner in this field, is extraordinary and will increase our efforts always to be better."

In the 2022/23 crop year, Estância Dona Genoveva produced 2,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"This year was characterized by intense heat and prolonged drought in the summer, which required irrigation to maintain fruit turgor," he said. "Otherwise, it was a normal year. The trees are still in the development phase, and consequently, production is increasing."

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
