Kassel Awarded for Phileos Brand at 2020 NYIOOC

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Kasell has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Phileos brand, a delicate blend.

Kasell's target is to increase Phileos' presence and sales not only in the U.S. market but also all over the world. We believe the global exposure and awareness the NYIOOC brings should be one of the most powerful tools for us to achieve our goal.

Georgios Karytsiotis, export and sales manager

The Laconia-based company produced 6,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil in the 2019/20 season using traditional harvesting methods.

"Kasell's target is to increase Phileos' presence and sales not only in the U.S. market but also all over the world," export and sales manager Georgios Krytsiotis said. "We believe the global exposure and awareness the NYIOOC brings should be one of the most powerful tools for us to achieve our goal."

Overall, Krytsiotis said that 2019 was a very good year for Kasell, citing improved quality.

"Compared to last year, the qualities this year for our region, Laconia, were much higher," he said. "We controlled the two major problems of the production early: gloeosporium and the olive fly."

"For gloeosporium, we sprayed our trees early during the blossoming period and for the olive fly we made bait sprays (non-coverage) without having to spray the olives and the leaves," he added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
