5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

Mavras Olive Oil Company suffered low yields last year, but still managed to come away victorious from its first entry at world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Rain shortage, high climatic temperature resulted in quite low olive yields. We hope and wish mankind become aware of the harm we all are giving to our beautiful planet earth. Otherwise, we all will be facing the adverse effects of the negative climate change.

The Turkish company took home two NYIOOC World Gold Awards and one Silver Award. The Gold Award winners were: Mavras Extra Virgin Ayıdikeni, a medium Edremit; and Mavras Ayıdikeni Organic, an organic delicate Edremit. The company's Melike , a medium Edremit, took a Silver Award.

The 2019/2020 season was marked by significant challenges, the company CEO Melike As said after receiving news of the award.

"Rain shortage, high climatic temperature resulted in quite low olive yields. We hope and wish mankind become aware of the harm we all are giving to our beautiful planet earth. Otherwise we all will be facing the adverse effects of the negative climate change," As said.

The new company, which produces olive oil from 5000 trees using traditional methods, was started in 2018.

"This is the first time we are taking part in NYIOOC. Our olive oil plant is brand new with the machinery of the latest technology. [We] started production in 2018. Of course we are very happy to win two gold and one silver that we won with three olive oil samples from our extraction from our different groves," As said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
