Olio Guglielmi Awarded for Coratina at 2023 NYIOOC

Italian producer Olio Guglielmi has won a Gold Award at the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

Based on Puglia, the company won the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition award for its Guglielmi dal 1954 brand, a medium Coratina monovarietal. The producer has won six awards at the NYIOOC since 2017.

"The NYIOOC represents a great opportunity for us; the opportunity to receive the recognition that rewards our efforts and hard work every day," managing director Saverio Guglielmi said.

In the 2022/23 crop year, the company produced 1 million liters of extra virgin olive oil. Like many producers across the Mediterranean, Guglielmi said extreme climate conditions proved a formidable challenge.

"Like everyone, we have had to face problems related to the drop in production and high temperatures since the end of April, along with the increase in production costs," he said.

"However, our company has been able to keep up, thanks to the irrigation present on all of our 200 hectares and thanks to farms located in different areas," Guglielmi added.

Held each spring in New York, the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
