Olive Grove Partners Win Gold at 2020 NYIOOC

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Olive Grove Partners has won a Gold Award for its medium blend at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Winning this award is extremely rewarding for us. Olive oil producers know very well how hard is to produce a top-quality oil and how much effort you need to put in. This award is an incentive for us to keep following the track and pace we have set.

Andrea Sozzi Sabatini, owner

Last year, the company produced 4,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil from five different varieties in Tuscany, Italy, and was awarded for its Etrurio Sostenuto, a medium blend.

"Winning this award is extremely rewarding for us," owner Andrea Sozzi Sabatini said. "Olive oil producers know very well how hard is to produce a top-quality oil and how much effort you need to put in. This award is an incentive for us to keep following the track and pace we have set."

Olive Grove Partners produces olive oil using mechanical methods from the Koroneiki, Arbequina, Maurino, Sikitika and Correggiolo varieties.

Along with many other Tuscan producers, Olive Grove Partners faced its fair share of difficulties throughout the 2019/20 season, but were helped significantly by investing in smart technology.

"The main challenge for us was to cope with the continuous rain that did not allow to use the harvester," Sozzi Sabatini said. "On the positive side, we did not suffer any damage by insects thanks to our new SpyFly robotic traps, which allow us to monitor the olive groves directly from our smartphone and intervene promptly."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
