OPG Garmica Celebrates Debut World Competition Award

OPG Garmica from Croatia has won a Gold Award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Situated on the island of Hvar, off Croatia's southern coast, the producer earned its debut NYIOOC accolade for a medium-intensity Levantinka.

"This is my first time entering the NYIOOC, and I am very excited and happy," owner Ante Đuderija said. "For OPG Garmica, this is just the beginning; I hope for continuity in olive oil quality in the years to come."

In the 2023/24 crop year, OPG Garmica produced 210 liters of extra virgin olive oil from its 120-tree grove using traditional methods.

"It was a very rainy year, with a large attack of the olive fruit fly," Đuderija said. "Unfortunately, I was unable to protect some varieties, and some olives were unusable."
