Porterville Olives Extends Winning Streak at World Competition

5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

South African producer Porterville Olives (Pty) Ltd extended its winning streak in the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are delighted. We consider this a great achievement in the current circumstances. We are very pleased with having done so well in this great competition.

Willie Duminy, Owner, Porterville Olives (Pty) Ltd

This year, the company added a Gold Award to the other five it has received since 2016. The winning oil was Andante Intenso, a medium-intensity Nocellara del Belice.

The harvest was hindered by the coronavirus, the company's owner, Willie Duminy, said after receiving news of the award.

"In South Africa, the current harvest is 2020. It was conducted under Covid-19 lockdown conditions. Management and coordination of all harvesting and production functions [was a challenge]," Duminy said.

The company produced 45,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from 32,000 Nocellara del Belice olive trees.

Duminy said he was "delighted" by the win.

"We consider this a great achievement in the current circumstances. It is apt recognition for our team's commitment to excellence and persistence, regardless. We are very pleased with having done so well in this great competition," he said.
