Taralinga Estate Awarded for 2 EVOOs

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Australian producer Taralinga Estate has won two Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, for a monovarietal and blend.

We are ecstatic and humbled! It's a momentous occasion for us as both our products are now ranked on the Official Guide to the World’s Best Olive Oils.

Karen Godfrey, marketing manager

The Victoria-based company took home the awards for its Robusto, a robust Picual, and Fruttato, a delicate blend.

"We are ecstatic and humbled," marketing manager Karen Godfrey said. "It's a momentous occasion for us as both our products are now ranked on the Official Guide to the World’s Best Olive Oils."

In the 2019/20 season, Taralinga Estate produced 6,000 liters of extra virgin using traditional methods.

Godfrey acknowledged that despite a tough year for Australia as a whole, Taralinga Estate got quite lucky.

"As we are based on the Mornington Peninsula, we were extremely lucky not to have been impacted by Australia's terrible bushfire season," she said. "Many local growers face uncertainty regarding irrigation however, again, we are fortunate as we have a large dam filled with bore water and rainfall. This provides sufficient all year irrigation for our olive grove."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
