Terradiva Awarded for Organic Coratina in New York

a year agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Terradiva has won a Gold Award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

This recognition gives us the impetus to continue with our work as small, quality producers... We hope that more United States customers will be able to taste our oil and come to walk among our olive trees in Puglia.

Vincenzo Lobascio, owner

The Puglia-based company earned its second-ever award at the 2023 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for an organic medium-intensity Coratina.

"This recognition gives us the impetus to continue with our work as small, quality producers," owner Vincenzo Lobascio said. "Our company is under the sky, and some difficulties, unfortunately, have no short-term solution."

"We hope that more United States customers will be able to taste our oil and come to walk among our olive trees in Puglia," he added.

Lobascio said erratic weather made organic farming especially challenging during the previous harvest.

"It is not easy to do organic farming and cope with the sudden changes in temperature even in southern Italy: heat waves in winter and then the risk of hailstorms, too much rain or no rain at all for months," he said.

"We are aware that it takes a worldwide collective change to preserve biodiversity and the possibility of continuing farming," Lobascio added.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition held each spring in New York, is the world's largest olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.

The complete list of winners can be viewed in the Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils.
