Tsouderos Wins for Ladi Brand

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Tsouderos has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its Ladi brand, a delicate Koroneiki monovarietal.

We are extremely honored to receive this recognition from the NYIOOC for what we are producing. The product is a new brand, so the company is celebrating the first award while keeping our focus on what will lead to our continued success.

Catherine Papaioannou said about the award

Tsouderos, which is based on the southern Greek island of Crete, produced 2,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods in the 2019/20 season.

"We are extremely honored to receive this recognition from the NYIOOC for what we are producing," the company's international business development consultant, Catherine Papaioannou, said. "The product is a new brand, so the company is celebrating the first award while keeping our focus on what will lead to our continued success."

In spite of this first big success, Papioannou said that it did not come easy and the company faced various challenges along the way.

"The agriculture sector faces various challenges," Papaioannou said. "This crop was not particularly good compared to last year because the olive fly attacked our Cretan groves this year."

"For some producers, the quantity may have been lower and the quality was not promising," she added. "We worked hard to collect olives of excellent quality and quantity."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
