Aceites Villa de Canena Recognized for Outstanding Picual

5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

Spanish producer Aceites Villa de Canena has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The company produces its extra virgin oil from 5,000 Picual trees in Andalusia using traditional methods. The winning oil was the medium Villa de Cadema Picual.

Company owner Rufino Reyes said the 2019/2020 season was marked by a water shortage for some of the producer's trees, and remarked on the advantages of winning in the prestigious competition.

"I think it will help promote our oils," Reyes said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
