Fratelli Colletti Notches Third NYIOOC Win

4 years agoBy Masha Richart

Fratelli Colletti's traditionally produced monovarietal took a Silver Award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

Once we have someone taste our oil, they become a repeat customer. Having a string of wins at a prestigious event like the NYIOOC goes a long way towards getting folks to take that first taste.

George Colletti, Co-Owner, Fratelli Colletti

It was the third NYIOOC World win for the company's medium Biancolilla.

When he learned of the award today, company co-owner George Colletti said 2019/2020 was a good year for Fratelli Colletti.

"In Sicily this season, we did not face the shortages we saw in 2018. This was a good year for us, finishing our production within the first two weeks of the harvest. Yields were low, as expected when producing an early harvest oil from young green fruit. However the payoff, as always, was worth it," Colletti said.

Colletti noted the benefits of exposure in a competition like NYIOOC.

"At Fratelli Colletti, we thrive on followers. Being a small producer, not widely marketed we rely on guerrilla marketing with a lot of face to face contact. Once we have someone taste our oil, they become a repeat customer. Having a string of wins at a prestigious event like the NYIOOC goes a long way towards getting folks to take that first taste," he said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
