Boccabella Farms Wins 3 Awards at 2024 NYIOOC

7 months agoBy OOT Staff

California producer Boccabella Farms has won three awards at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.

We were thrilled to walk away with golds this year for our Winemakers Blend and Field Blend. It's truly humbling to win consistently year after year against some of the toughest competition in the industry.

Johnny Jantz, co-owner

The perennial World Competition winner earned Gold Awards for two medium-intensity blends: Field Blend and Winemakers Blend. The company also earned a Silver Award for a delicate Arbequina.

"Since 2019, our extra virgin olive oils have taken home 13 Gold Awards and one Silver Award at the NYIOOC," said co-owner Johnny Jantz. "We were thrilled to walk away with golds this year for our Winemakers Blend and Field Blend. It's truly humbling to win consistently year after year against some of the toughest competition in the industry."

Boccabella Farms produces extra virgin olive oil in San Miguel, San Luis Obispo County, from Arbequina, Frantoio, Leccino, Picholine, Pendolino, Bouteillan and Cailletier olives using traditional methods.

The three NYIOOC accolades capped off what Jantz described as a "great harvest" despite the late ripening of the fruit.

"Our 2023 harvest was shaping up to be a blockbuster – the olive trees were loaded with fruit – but as we waited for ripening in November, we realized it was going to be a late olive harvest," he said. "We started hand-harvesting in December, did small picks to select the best fruit as it ripened and did our last pick in January, a first for us."
