On learning of the win, company owner Walid Mushantaf remarked on the lengths to which the producer goes in the pursuit of a quality product.

"We start our harvesting around mid-September when the olives are green in order to obtain good quality of oil. During this early time of the season, no nearby olive mills will be opened. So we drive for two hours daily to process our olives in a modern olive mill during the same day of harvesting, and this will last for almost one month," Mushantaf said.

The winning oil was Bustan El Zeitoun, a medium Frantoio. The company produced 20,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from 6,000 Frantoio olive trees, using traditional methods.

"We feel proud to be winners for three consecutive years at NYIOOC competition, because this event is well-reputed worldwide for its credibility. Professionals in the food industry and EVOO lovers seek the results to make their choices. This award is rewarding for us because they value our hardship and our passion to produce the best olive oil," Mushantaf said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
