Arduous Harvest Yields Dividends for Carma at World Competition
Carma from Italy has won a pair of Silver Awards at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
It is an incentive for the whole team to achieve prestigious results in such a well-known competition and to be recognized as a high-quality producer in a difficult climatic season.
Gianluca Pizzo said about the award
With four olive groves across central Italy – including the regions of Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria – the permaculture-centered producer earned the awards for a pair of organic medium-intensity blends: Essenza di Carma Bio and 100x100 Carma.
"It is an incentive for the whole team to achieve prestigious results in such a well-known competition and to be recognized as a high-quality producer in a difficult climatic season," chief executive Gianluca Pizzo said. Both brands were also awarded at the 2023 NYIOOC.
In the 2023/24 crop year, Carma produced 8,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
"It was a difficult flowering season with wet or too dry weather in some of our estates," Pizzo said. "It was a very dry summer with premature harvesting and a low quantity of oil inside the olives. Across central Italy, it was a laborious and time-consuming job to produce the high quality we are used to achieving."
