Marcum Olive Oil Wins Double Golds for Italian Cultivars

Marcum Olive Oil from the United States has won two Gold Awards at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

The California-based producer earned awards at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for a pair of monovarietals: a medium-intensity Coratina and a medium Itrana.

"From the time our fruit came off our trees, we could tell this was going to be a great year for our oil," owner Grant Marcum said. "Adding two Gold Awards from our first NYIOOC competition to our growing collection of 2024 medals is a great honor."

"We hope our awards will help others to recognize and appreciate our passion for producing the highest quality extra virgin olive oil," he added.

In the 2023/24 crop year, Marcum Olive Oil produced 450 liters of extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"2023 was an optimal year for growing olives in California, although the olive fruit fly was out in force," Marcum said. "Luckily, our farm is situated in an area of the Central Coast known for our hot summers, which kill most of the fruit flies. After summer, I rotated certified organic fly bait and spray and was able to keep them away."
