Fuenquesada Excels at World Competition with Picual

7 months agoBy OOT Staff

Spanish producer Fuenquesada has won a Gold Award at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

This year, the Gold Award vindicates our methods and efforts in producing best-in-class extra virgin olive oil.

Felix Gonzalez Quesada, CEO

Situated in Andalusia, the world's largest olive oil-producing region, the company earned the award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for a medium-intensity Picual. The brand previously earned Gold Awards in 2020, 2021 and 2023.

"We were excited to win the Gold Award last year," said Felix Gonzalez Quesada, the company's chief executive. "Earning such recognition is hard and implies a lot of work, but the biggest challenge is maintaining the strict quality requirements on a regular basis."

"This year, the Gold Award vindicates our methods and efforts in producing best-in-class extra virgin olive oil," he added.

For Gonzalez Quesada, this year's award was especially gratifying after another extremely challenging harvest in southern Spain.

"The lack of rain was again a challenge," he confirmed. "Even combining tradition and innovation – integrating modern irrigation and fertigation together with traditional techniques, maximizing the use of the scarce resource – we have been forced to concentrate the use of water in a portion of the orchard. 2023 production is limited, but quality is at the highest level."
