Le Fontacce Celebrates Its Winning Morailolo

Le Fontacce, from central Italy, has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its organic robust Moraiolo.

For me and my small company, this award means a lot. I have always concentrated my energies and all my great passion in producing the highest quality possible.

In the 2019/20 season, the Tuscan producer harvested 5,000 liters organic extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"I'm very happy! For me and my small company, this award means a lot," owner Simone Botti said. "I have always concentrated my energies and all my great passion in producing the highest quality possible. I have invested in a latest-generation oil mill so as to keep the entire supply chain within the company by personally managing all the steps from the field to the bottle."

Even upon receiving news of his first win at the World Olive Oil Competition, Botti said that 2019 had been a difficult year for his farm.

"2019 was a very difficult year," he said. "We had few olives and an olive fly infestation threatened the harvest, but above all, high temperatures during the harvest put a strain on us to be able to process the olives in the mill in time while trying to get a quality product."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
