New Investments Pay Off: Tre Olive Wins With Carolea

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Italian producer Tre Olive has won two awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

For us, the awards validate the improvements that we committed to over the last several years: investments in grove equipment, upgrades at our mill, and changing processes that have been in place for decades in order to improve quality.

Joe Maruca, co-owner

The Calabrian producer earned a Gold Award for its Campo Dieci, and a Silver Award for its Tre Olive, both medium intensity Carolea monovarietals.

"We are very excited and grateful," co-owner Joe Maruca said. "For us, the awards validate the improvements that we committed to over the last several years: investments in grove equipment, upgrades at our mill and changing processes that have been in place for decades in order to improve quality."

Tre Olive produces extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods in southern Italy.

Maruca said that while the harvest had been good overall, warm weather caused some problems during the harvest.

"The 2019 harvest was decent overall," he said. "It started off well, but as it progressed, we had issues with flies due to warmer-than-average temperatures in November."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
