Mexican Producer of Olibaja Awarded
Procesadora de Aceituna S.A de C.V. from Mexico has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
The entire Olibaja team is very happy, both in the field and in the plant production area. We did not expect to win any awards, especially since Olibaja was the only contestant for extra virgin olive oil in Mexico.
Susana Zamora Villegas, manager, Procesadora de Aceituna S.A. de C.V.
The company produced 90,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from its 50,000 Mission and Manzanilla olive trees this year employing intensive cultivation methods.
On receiving news of the award today, company manager Susana Zamora Villegas remarked that climate conditions had been difficult during the season.
"One of our main challenges for our 2019 harvest was water scarcity due to climate change in the Baja California region of Mexico, as winter rains have also been significantly reduced," said Zamora Villegas.
The winning oil was Olibaja , a medium-intensity blend, produced in Mexico.
"The entire Olibaja team is very happy, both in the field and in the plant production area. We did not expect to win any awards, especially since Olibaja was the only contestant for extra virgin olive oil in Mexico," Zamora Villegas said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
