Tenute Caracci Debuts With Award-Winning Result

Tenute Caracci, from Italy, has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its medium Nocellara del Belice.

It is the first time that we participate in this contest and I did not expect to win a Gold Award. This is greatly satisfying for me and our whole family. We put our heart into cultivating olive trees.

The small-scale Sicilian producer harvested 2,000 liters extra virgin olive oil, in the 2019/20 season, using traditional methods.

"It is the first time that we participate in this contest and I did not expect to win a Gold Award," owner Mirko Caracci said. "This is greatly satisfying for me and our whole family. We put our heart into cultivating olive trees."

In spite of the successful season, Caracci said that 2019 did not come without its fair share of challenges.

"For us, 2019 was not an easy year," he said. "There were problems during the flowering. The morning mists caused flowers to fall and therefore also led to a decrease in production. Unfortunately, we did not get a large quantity of oil this year, but the quality was excellent."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
