Little Gypsy Farms Victorious at NYIOOC

6 months agoBy Daniel Dawson

Little Gypsy Farms has claimed its first ever award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, taking home Gold for its medium Koroneiki monovarietal.

It feels so satisfying after a year of intense work caring for the farm and olive grove to see it culminate in a Gold Award! I appreciated having the spotlight and helping to educate consumers on what constitutes a quality extra virgin olive oil in a world dominated by large players and an overwhelming selection in the modern grocery store.

George Gyftakis, owner

The Greek company produces extra virgin olive oil from Koroneiki olives using traditional methods.

“It feels so satisfying after a year of intense work caring for the farm and olive grove to see it culminate in a Gold Award,” owner George Gyftakis said. “I appreciated having the spotlight and helping to educate consumers on what constitutes a quality extra virgin olive oil in a world dominated by large players and an overwhelming selection in the modern grocery store.”

Gyftakis added that he plans on following up on this success by continuing to work and innovate, hoping to attract a new generation of educated consumers willing to pay more for higher quality.

“As for the Greek olive oil sector, we think the time is right for building a brand for a new generation,” he said. “Consumers are more health conscious and deserve to know that their olive oil comes from a trusted and transparent source, while being educated on what makes a high-quality extra virgin olive oil in a primarily fraudulent market.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
