Sicily’s Naru Olive Oil Honored at World Competiton
Organic producer Naru Olive Oil has won its first-ever award at the 2024 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world's largest olive oil quality contest.
Situated in the Agrigento province of southern Sicily, the company earned a Silver Award for its eponymous brand, a medium-intensity blend of native Nocellara del Belice and Biancolilla olives.
Owner Maria Piscopo, who founded the company in 2016, described feeling "honored and really happy" after being awarded at the world's most prestigious quality contest.
In the 2023/24 crop year, Naru Olive Oil produced 5,000 liters of olive oil using traditional methods.
Piscopo cited drought throughout 2023, followed by rain during the harvest, as the main obstacle she faced in producing award-winning extra virgin olive oil.
