Croatian Producer Celebrates First NYIOOC Win

OPG Čurin Eva Marija has claimed its first award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, taking home Gold for an organic medium Levantinka.

In the 2019/20 season, Eva Marija Čurin's company produced organic extra virgin olive oil exclusively from the local Levantinka variety using traditional methods.

"I'm very happy and proud," Čurin said. "Winning this award is a big opportunity for more success in the future. My complete production is organic and organic is the future!"

"I'm a young producer with only 23 years of tradition and every day we try to become better and better," she added.

For Čurin, this award caps off what has been an especially good year for her, with the weather cooperating to help maximize her crop and its potential.

"Compared with 2018, the 2019 harvest was much better in terms of quantity and the quality was perfect," she said. "2019 had the perfect climatic conditions for the olive variety we grow."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
