Pago de Peñarrubia Wins for Extraordinary Picual
Spanish producer Pago de Peñarrubia has won a Silver Award for its organic delicate Picual at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
Receiving this award is a recognition for our hard work that is translated into our organic extra virgin olive oil. This is our first organic harvest and we are pretty happy with the results.
Juan Olivares, CEO
In the 2019/20 season, the company produced 200 tons of organic extra virgin olive oil in Castilla-La Mancha from Picual olives.
"Receiving this award is a recognition for our hard work that is translated into our organic extra virgin olive oil," CEO Juan Olivares said. "This is our first organic harvest and we are pretty happy with the results."
Olivares added that while the quality of the 2019 season was good, production was down due to damage sustained by the groves the previous year.
"After a big frost in 2018, our trees were damaged," he said. "Therefore, the production was decreased. However, we struggled to get the best quality out of what we had in our mill."
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
