Natura Rodos Enjoy Win Despite Difficult Season

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Greek producer Natura Rodos has won a Silver Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its delicate Koroneiki.

The greatest aim of our company, Natura Rodos, is to produce products of high quality. During all these years, we have worked really hard to pursue our dream and build a satisfied clientele. Moments and awards like these, are a confirmation of our work and help us to push the limits even further: we want to offer the best product possible.

Kallas Stavros, CEO

In the 2019/20 season, the Rodos-based company produced 10,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from Koroneiki olives using traditional methods.

"The greatest aim of our company, Natura Rodos, is to produce products of high quality," CEO Kallas Stavros said. "During all these years, we have worked really hard to pursue our dream and build a satisfied clientele. Moments and awards like these, are a confirmation of our work and help us to push the limits even further: we want to offer the best product possible."

However, the producer from the eastern Greek island admitted that this year's harvest was far from easy, citing climate change as one of the biggest challenges.

"Unfortunately, climate change and the change of the microclimate resulted in long warm periods of weather when it should have been cold, especially toward the end of the harvesting process," Stavros said. "This adverse weather had a big impact on both the quantity and the quality of the olive oil."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
