3 months agoBy Masha Richart

Croatian producer Torkop took a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world’s most prestigious olive oil quality contest.

We are proud of the victory, which means that the year-round effort has paid off. This is proof that we have been adhering to the high quality of our oils for years. This makes us recognizable in the country and the world.

Dražen Černeka, Owner, Torkop

The company produce 3,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil from 2,000 Istrian Bjelica olive trees using traditional methods this year.

Yields were disappointing, but quality was high, during the 2019/2020 season, company owner DraženČerneka said when he learned of the win today.

“The 2019 harvest in Istria was one of the worst years in terms of quantity, but on the other hand we are satisfied with the quality of the oil, which we have proven with numerous awards this year,” Černeka said.

The winning oil was Černeka, a medium-intensity Istrian Bjelica.

“We are proud of the victory, which means that the year-round effort has paid off. This is proof that we have been adhering to the high quality of our oils for years. This makes us recognizable in the country and the world,” Černeka said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
