5 years agoBy Olive Oil Times

Nuvo Olive Oil has won 3 Gold Awards at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, bringing its number of recognitions in the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest to six.

To be awarded by some of the leading olive oil sommeliers in the world is wonderful and our team is overjoyed.

Joshua and Nathan Mardigian, Co-owners, Nuvo Olive Oil

The company produced 75 tons of extra virgin olive oil in California from 3,500 Mission, Barouni and Ascolano olive trees.

The company was helped by good conditions during the 2019/2020 season, co-owners Joshua and Nathan Mardigian said after receiving news of the award today.

"This year's lead-up to and actual harvest went smoother than last year. No fly - again! - and we harvested just before heavy rains," the Mardigians said.

Repeat winning oils were Nuvo Early Harvest, a medium Mission and Nuvo Estate Blend, a medium blend. Nuvo Early Harvest is a three-time winner and Nuvo Estate Blend had won once before. The third winning oil was Nuvo Expert Blend, a medium-intensity blend that placed for the first time.

"It's not always the most lucrative thing to win a gold medal, but it is the most gratifying! To be awarded by some of the leading olive oil sommeliers in the world is wonderful and our team is overjoyed," the co-owners said.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
