Olivetum Posavianus: Small Company, Big Win

5 years agoBy OOT Staff

Olivetum Posavianus from Croatia has won a Gold Award at the 2020 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its medium Picholine.

The award has shown us that you don’t have to be big to accomplish resounding results and achieve big dreams. This recognition made us proud of our work.

Goran Brašnić, owner

The small company produces extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods.

"This is our first application to the NYIOOC and this award thrilled us as we are a small producer with a relatively small number of trees and actually only at the beginning of serious olive oil production," owner Goran Brašnić said. "The award has shown us that you don’t have to be big to accomplish resounding results and achieve big dreams. This recognition made us proud of our work."

While the 2019/20 season concluded successfully, Brašnić said there were plenty of challenges for Olivetum Posavianus to overcome along the way.

"The beginning of the year was very challenging for us because it brought us a lot of bad weather, from heavy rains and winds to high temperatures," he said. "These conditions damages some of our olive blossoms and later some of the young fruits. Although the harvest was weaker than in previous years, we are satisfied with the quality of our olive oil."

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest and its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
